Event Report | Ad-Tech Shanghai – Widgets and Social Apps
+8* Cmune Event reportsPublished December 1, 2008 at 4:48 pm No CommentsThe past week was quite busy with clients visiting and two presentations in conferences in a row. The first of which was Ad:Tech in Shanghai. The Ad:Tech team puts great effort in the editorial of the event and overall, it was good despite the financial crisis and the cancellation of Baidu’s Robin Li (likely stuck in PR crisis management meetings…).
We were presenting on the “Widgets in the media mix” panel on the first day. We were wearing 3 different hats in this panel:
- Consultant hat with +8*
- Mobile hat with Mobile Monday
- Widget / Social Hat practitioner with Cmune
Among our main points were:
- Internet is the new agora. The mass media killed conversations, now they are back online. As brands, it is your choice to be part of it or stay put on the side.
- Social apps and widgets give brands a legitimate way to enter the places where the conversation is taking place
- So many experiments are going on, learn from them and improve every time
How about the future of Widgets and Social Apps?
- They all look separated (Netvibes, Mobile widgets, iPhone apps, Facebook apps…)
- Those are different packaging for the same thing
- Example of Cmune, which allows seamless interaction between PC/Mac browsers, Facebook users and Apple Widgets users (MySpace and iPhone to come)
