Open Web Asia ‘08 Conference @ Seoul, 14 October 2008
Thanks to the efforts of our Dear Leader Kim Changwon @ Web2.0Asia who gathered the boys from OpenWeb.Asia and some more free souls, the event that was just an idea in mid-December has turned into a full-fledged event gathering over 16 great speakers to showcase the best of Asia’s web and mobile innovations. They are a mix of the best thinkers and doers across China, Japan, Korea, with some special guests from Silicon Valley.
If you are not sure if social networks can make money, if digital goods are a good business model, if Q&A is really interesting, if IC card technologies can make your life better, if innovation can happen in e-commerce, you should probably join!
Further, being a grassroots initiative supported by the the World Knowledge Forum and the Korean Ministry of Culture, the event is incredibly affordable (only 200 USD per participant!).
It is a great pleasure to be part of it for organizing as well as presenting & moderating the session “Collaboration: Introduction to Asia’s Social Web” with great companies such as
- Naver, Korea’s leading portal and search engine – far ahead of both Yahoo and Google and inventor of the “Q&A” service replicated by Yahoo Answers and Baidu Knows.
- Ohmynews, the most successful “citizen media”, who contributed to the election of Korea’s new president in 2002 and now ranks among the most influential media in Korea.
- Cyworld, Korea’s leading SNS which not only changed Korea’s society but is also hugely profitable.
- Seesmic, the video twitter startup from Silicon Valley’s Loic Le Meur, who also organizes Europe’s largest Web conference LeWeb
And this is just one session among four! We have a couple of open slots left for speakers you can contact us via the site if you are interested in joining :-)
Sponsors are also welcome to make the event even better. This is the first edition, you’ll be remembered!
Among other speakers are
- Arthur Chang, VP @ Alibaba, China’s largest E-commerce company
- Yongjoon Hyoung, CEO of StoryBlender and founder of Cyworld
- Kevin Day, CEO of Comsenz, China’s largest BBS platform
- Jimmy Kim, EVP of Nexon, one of Korea’s top online gaming companies, famous overseas for its MapleStory game
- Shusaku Maruko, GM of Felica Networks, the technology behind Japan’s contactless payment, transport and lifestyle
- Akio Tanaka, Managing Partner @ Infinity Ventures, a Japan/China-focused VC firm, former CTO of Macromedia Japan and co-organizer of Japan’s leading Web and mobile event “Infinity Ventures Summit”
Feel free to check the complete list here.
Looking forward to see you there on October 14!
