Speech @ Wireless Developer Forum: the 3G paradox
+8*Published September 13, 2007 at 2:02 pm No CommentsWe joined last week the Wireless Developer Forum event in Beijing and delivered a presentation titled ”The 3G paradox – Horror stories and fairy tales from Asia”. The document is available in our resources section, unfortunately we did not record the session so several slides will look rather obscure without the speech.
Essentially, 3G is still largely nebulous for most, and sweat and equity might be better spent improving more inoccuous things such as user’s familiarity with current services, before moving forward. To be honest, our opinion is that 3G will bring a bunch of great things that we cannot really imagine now – just like during the dial-up era, people would have said “I don’t need broadband to send emails and browse websites!”. True enough, but broadband enabled media-rich content, instant communication and removed numerous barriers dial-up had. So even if we don’t know what it is now, great things are coming and times will be A-changing :-)
There was certainly food for thought for developers and mobile content and tech companies, as the event provided a mix or propaganda for Nokia and SE’s developer programs, as well as presentations from several interesting mobile content / solutions companies such as ASPire, mInfo and Puca China.
