Mobile TV and Video

In this month’s Mobile monday session, Li Jianzhong of France Telecom R&D Beijing presented the operator’s point of view on mobile TV and Video as well as Orange’s services in Europe with a nice demonstration video (which we might get and offer you if policy allows). Mr Li honestly said that while the technical aspects are more or less settled, operators do not know better on the service side and are learning by experimenting, and that an original mobile-centric experience should eventually appear in addition to the current data-enriched rebroadcasts or video extracts of terrestrial TV.

Eddie Tong from Real Networks showed how delivering video content on different platforms can be a headache for content owners, and how their different platform solutions handles this complexity.

Last, Andrew Zhang from Mobile Vision introduced the fixed & mobile (ubiquitous?) VOD and streaming service they have been running under their portal LookLook.cn and on China Unicom CDMA 1x networks . They also work with Tianjin Unicom’s EV-DO network (Tianjin Unicom being – and this was new information to many attendants – the pilot area for China Unicom’s 3G using EV-DO).

We got permission to publish two of the presentations. To keep balance, we added our little report on the Global Summit as well.:
