Opera’s mobile browser is now breaking down the PC-web to make it – finally! – readable and usable on mobiles and went home with the B2B Award (Opera is based in Norway), while in B2C it was a close call between the winner, Canada’s “ComVu“, a video IP-tunnelling solution that streams your videophone directly into a webpage, and for second place France’s Video Publishing on Demand drag-n-drop-click-n-publish solution vpod.tv. which allows video upload from any device (webcam, mobile, etc.) and converts it to any format to be directly playable. Both technically impressive and easy to use, both video-centered.
We saw this as a coming of age sign of mobile video services, with a web 2.0 flavor of community, sharing, and easy-to-use interfaces.
Though China might not have yet impressive technical solutions to show, we believe the unique combination of media/Internet/mobile will allow Chinese companies to come up quickly with extremely innovative service designs and business models (as an innovation does not necessarily have to be technical), and we look forward to select our delegates for next year’s event!
